Indien hat 28 Bundesstaaten / Föderalstaaten und die Hauptstadt ist Delhi. India has got 28 federal states and it’s capital is Delhi.

1,1 Milliarden Menschen leben in Indien. 1.1 billion people live in India.

Das Durchschnittsalter beträgt in Indien ca. 25 Jahre, in Deutschland liegt es um die 40 Jahre. The average age in India is ~25 years while it’s in Germany for example about 40 years.

Die Fläche Indiens ist neun mal größer als die Deutschlands, es sind ca. 3,3 Millionen Quadratkilometer. The area of India is nine times larger than the area of Germany. It’s 3.3 million km³ tall.

Die meistgesprochene Sprache ist Hindi (ein Fünftel, also zwanzig Prozent, der Inder sprechen Hindi), gefolgt von Englisch. The most common language spoken is Hindi (twenty per cent of the indian population speak Hindi), and English is used as a “lingua franca”.

Economy in India – Ökonomie in Indien

Große Firmen wie Nokia, BMW, IBN investieren Millionen von Dollar, um ihre Produktionsstätten in Indien zu vergrößern. Many huge and popular companies invest some billion Dollars to expand their production facilities in India.

In den Städten Indiens gibt es eine Konsumgesellschaft, wie auch bei uns in Europa. In the cities of India there is a society of consumers.

Immerzu gibt es mehr gebildete Inder und immer mehr junge Englischsprechende. There are more and more English-Speaking young people.

In the rural area of India / in der ländlichen Gegend Indiens:

Kinderarbeit ist ein weit verbreitetes Problem. Child labour is a widespread problem.

Es gibt keine gute Bildung und eine Hohe Analphabetenrate. There is no good education and a high illiteracy rate.

Gandhi’s Salt March / Der Salzmarsch von Gandhi:

Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948) oder auch „Mahatma Gandhi“ führte den Salzmarsch durch. Es war ein Marsch zum Meer. It was a march to the sea.

Tausende von Inder folgten Gandhi auf diesem Marsch. Thousands of Indians joined him.

Es war ein friedlicher Protest und viele Inder unterstützten Gandhi. It has been a peaceful protest and many Indians supported him.

Gandhi wollte das britische Salz-Monopol in Indien verhindern / dagegen protestieren. Gandhi wanted to break the British monopoly on making salt.

Der Salzmarsch fand 1930 statt. The Salt March took place in 1930.

Gandhi war dagegen, für Salz Steuern zu bezahlen. Gandhi refused to pay taxes for salt.

An der Küste nahm er eine Hand voll kristallisiertes Salz und wollte damit zeigen, dass Salz ein Geschenk der See ist. On the shore he picked up a hand full of crystallized salt for showing the salt was a gift of the sea.

Die Briten waren hilflos. The British turned out to be helpless.
